What is it that determines the direction of the wind?
Wind is caused by air moving from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. In the northern hemisphere air circulates clockwise in high pressure and anti-clockwise in low pressure areas (the opposite is true in the southern hemisphere). So wind direction is dependent on atmospheric pressure. If you face the direction that the wind is coming from the higher pressure will be to your left, low to your right in the northern hemisphere.
