What is it like working with members of Gold Motel as opposed to The Hush Sound?
Well I’ve known these guys actually longer than I knew most of the guys in The Hush Sound. Eric and I have been friends since we were teenagers. Dan, Matt, and Adam are all also in a band called This is Me Smiling who I followed in my early high school years. So, we get along really well. It’s really fun and spontaneous, and no pressure. I’m having a great time. Do you find that your inspiration is different for Gold Motel? I think the songs are different. It’s easy having Dan in the band as our engineer and producer. We record all the albums ourselves—we’ve only had one so far, obviously—but our plan is to record everything on our own. So, I think about songs more in the fact that I can write a very simple song and then bring it to Dan and Dan can bring it to life in the studio. So it’s very much collaborative? It’s really collaborative. It might even be more collaborative than The Hush Sound was… Which is interesting because they’re calling Gold Motel your “solo project,” right? Well
