What is it like to work in a Catholic university?
For one thing, you’ll notice a clearly articulated set of values that are explicitly integrated in all the divisions and departments of the university. Ideals such as respect for diversity, service to the public, and social justice are inherent in the university’s mission. Development of faith and spirituality are seen as vital components of the development of the whole person. Our training staff has an interest in using spirituality in counseling, and can serve as mentors to interns in the development of these skills should the intern so desire. About 45% of our university population identifies itself as Catholic, with the remainder of students coming from a variety of faith traditions. And yes, you’ll see priests on campus – St. Thomas is home to the St. Paul Seminary and has a minor seminary for undergraduate students as well.
