What is it like to be MOS 92G, Food Services?
The Army tricked me with this one too. I figured, “how hard can it be to be a cook?” Wellllll, it wasn’t worth the bonus, I’ll tell you that. AIT is very basic, it is in Fort Lee, Virginia and lasts 9 weeks. Training covers how to read & follow recipe cards and you go through 4 training areas: Baking – we made muffins & pies, bread from scratch. Small Garrison – went over preparing small quantities of food, salads, meatloaf, cooking vegetables… Large Garrison – preparing large portions, for hundreds of people. You are not allowed to get creative as you don’t know some peoples dietary restrictions. Field – here you go to the field, stay in tents and get hands on with the MKT (mobile kitchen trailer) or the CK (containerized kitchen), alot of this has to do with boiling food in bags or cooking over a stovetop.
