What is it like living in Barrow Alaska?
I live in Alaska and have worked extensiverly in Barrow – and every village from Wainwright to Katovik across the North Slope. Imagine moving to a fishing town that has only one store, two restaurants, 1 gas station, 1 machine shop. And you cannot leave the town, or, drive anywhere else for services or purchases. Next – imagine you get into a disagreement with someone. And then finding out nobody will talk or work with you because you mad a person mad in the town. Imagine not being able to leave your home for fear of being eaten by a polar bear walking through town in winter? There are two kinds of people in Barrow and these villages. People who want to get the hell out, and, people who are so disfunctional they cannot survive anywhere else. -30 or -20C?? C? That is nice sping and fall temperatures. -65C to -75C is more like it in winter – and it goes down a heck of allot more with wind chill.
