What is ISBN and EAN number in relation with a book?
ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number. It is a 13 digit unique number assigned to each edition of each book. Prior to 2007 it was a 10 digit number. This number is tied to each specific version of a book and its bibliographic record, it has nothing to do with the price of a book. EAN (European Article Number) is similar to a UPC number. This number is reflected in the barcode that is scanned when you purchase an item. UPC numbers are more common in the US. This number is coded with the title and price of the book for the retailer.
