What is involved in creating stained glass art work?
Stained Glass Construction is very labor intensive and cantake many days or weeks to complete. It is basically a process of creating a puzzle made of glass. After the design is created or chosen, it is rendered to the proper dimensions. Each design element is then transferred to the glass one by one which allows all of the glass to be individually cut, and ground for the perfect puzzle fit. Then they are all individually wrapped in copper foil andsoldered into place via a lead free solder. A zinc frame is measured, cut, permanently applied and fitted with hooks for hanging. The Artis then washed, a patina is applied and then the work is waxed to provide a lasting finish. These photographs are examples of a custom stained glass piece during construction and then finished.
