What is involved in an egg donation cycle?
After you are selected by prospective parents, you will have several medical appointments before the egg donation cycle begins. These appointments include a complete physical and gynecological exam, blood tests, urine tests, transvaginal ultrasound and a psychological evaluation. Once you pass these tests, you will meet with an attorney to sign a contract with the prospective parents for the egg donation cycle. Next, you will take medication injections (with a small needle) for approximately 2-3 weeks to stimulate your ovaries to produce several mature eggs. As the eggs mature, their development will be monitored closely by the physician using ultrasound and blood hormone levels. You will need to attend approximately 8-10 medical appointments in a 2-3 week period for this monitoring. These appointments are usually first thing in the morning and include a blood test and transvaginal ultrasound. When directed by the physician, you will receive a final injection of a medication called hCG
