What is invloved in building a simple parking lot or driveway?
There might be a little more than you think. Every situation is going to be unique and will provide its own series of challenges and benefits. For the most part however, there will always be some basic principles to follow; 1. Planning. Before anything else planning must occur. Some things to keep in mind are drainage issues, functionality, load bearings, etc. 2. Clearing. Any existing vegitation must be removed including the roots. If it is green when you pave over it, it WILL grow through your asphalt. 3. Sub-Grade. This is basically the foundation of a paving project. Any unsuitable sub-grade soils must be removed from the paving area. Asphalt paving is only as solid as what is underneath it. Select sub-grade fill material may need to be installed to achieve the correct grade and a solid compacted foundation for the new parking lot if the existing sub-grade material is found to be unsuitable or is not able to be properly compacted.
