Investors in People (IiP) is a national standard supported by the UK Department for Education & Skills, that provides a tool in the form of a good practice framework. This enables any type of organisation to improve its performance through the better management and development of its people, linking their aims, aspirations and objectives with its business plans. IiP was first developed in the early 1990s by businesses and national organisations in the UK. The content of the standard is regularly reviewed to ensure that it is relevant and up to date. When the last review and revision of the standard took place in 2004, over 35,000 organisations had achieved IiP and it impacted on approximately 40% of the UK workforce.
