What is Internship Employment?
The Canadian Association for Internship Programs (CAFIP) defines an internship as “an extended period of time, typically 12 to 16 months of continuous duration, spent by a university student formally employed in a setting which provides work experience directly related to the student’s academic program and career objectives.” At Western, students in Engineering Computer Science, Statistics & Actuarial Science, Chemistry, Math, Applied Math and Physics, have participated in an internship work term prior to graduation. We welcome internship opportunities for Arts and Social Science students. Students leave school for a year to work for an employer who is offering a 12 or 16-month position, which will provide career of education-related work experience. Currently there are over 97 UWO internship students employed in 12 and 16-month work terms with several major Canadian and American employers.
