What is internal quality auditing?
What do we mean by auditing? In terms of quality assurance, it can be defined as ‘A systematic and independent examination to determine whether specified requirements and related results are complied with, and they are suitable to meet objectives. Auditing within ISO 9000, is referred to as ‘Internal Quality Auditing’. This is referring to the fact that it is a requirement for the organization to ‘self-audit’ on a systematic and continual basis, to ensure that the system and its operation meet requirements. I often conduct these audits on behalf of clients (it is perfectly acceptable for consultants to conduct internal quality audits). They find this much more efficient than using their own staff. It is often the case that employees do not like conducting audits of their colleagues activities. The audits are consequently often late and insufficient. What should be audited? My own approach is to audit each individual procedure in turn. I make sure that key requirements are complied with
