What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan is a service that makes materials not owned by our library, available to patrons. We work in cooperation with other libraries across the nation in procuring wanted material. Please keep in mind that many libraries do not loan recently published, high-demand, rare, or fragile materials.
Interlibrary loan is a service provided by Kimbel Library that you can use to request books, journal articles, and other materials that Kimbel Library does not own. When you request something from Interlibrary Loan, we will find another library who has the materials you need and is willing to lend them to you or make a photocopy of them for you.
– Interlibrary loan is the borrowing of materials from other libraries for UIC faculty, staff, and students to support their educational endeavors. Two library units support these services, one borrowing from and lending to the libraries in Illinois with which we have special arrangements for fast delivery and the other doing borrowing and lending with libraries outside of the arrangement (including the CIC libraries).
What it is: the Interlibrary Loan system (ILL) is based on a general agreement among participating libraries to make materials available to other member libraries upon request. This agreement allows library patrons access to far more materials than any one library could possibly hold. We routinely search the Illinet Online, Resource Sharing Alliance, and the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database to locate and borrow materials owned by other US, Canadian and European libraries.
Interlibrary loan is a service to obtain resources from other libraries when they are not owned by any of the ASU Libraries. These resources include, but are not limited to, journal and magazine articles, books and/or book chapters, newspaper articles, conference proceedings and dissertations. Many interlibrary loan items are received in electronic formats. Use of interlibrary loan is intended for academic research only and may not be used for requesting textbooks. Interlibrary Loan reserves the right to limit or refuse services as deemed necessary.
