What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service that enables our library to obtain materials from other libraries throughout the world. Through this service, Brookens Library assists the scholarly research of UIS’s students, faculty and staff by obtaining items not owned by UIS from other libraries. Materials obtained on interlibrary loan become the borrower’s responsibility from the time of receipt until the material is returned to the ILL department. Patrons will be responsible for costs incurred due to lost or damaged items.
Saskatchewan libraries share their resources with each other by making many materials available for interlibrary loan. Interlibrary loan also makes it possible for Saskatchewan libraries to obtain materials from across Canada and worldwide. Interlibrary loan practices in Saskatchewan public libraries are guided by the document Saskatchewan Resource Sharing.
The Simmons College Library Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Department borrows and obtain copies of library materials in all formats not found in a Simmons collections, on behalf of our students, faculty, and staff. The ILL Department also lends and provides copies of Simmons-owned materials to other libraries. No library can be completely self-sufficient in meeting the needs of its users. ILL is essential to the vitality of libraries of all types and sizes. It is an important element in the provision of library services, and it is in the public interest to encourage such an exchange. This is an age of expanding information, a growing technology for sharing that information, and ever-increasing standards for scholarly and scientific endeavor.
