What is Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management?
Integrated municipal solid waste management (IMSWM) utilizes a combination of the four fundamental methods of management: reduction, recycling, combustion, and landfilling. These four fundamental methods do not compete with one another, but complement each other in an IMSWM system. Linking these fundamental methods are various modes of collection, transfer, and transportation. The methods selected, and the extent these are used, are based on how well they fit the needs of the community.
