What is insertion loss?
Insertion loss is quite simply the effectiveness of an EMI filter. Insertion loss is defined as the ratio of voltages across the load with over the voltage without the filter inserted in the circuit. Filter performance is dependant on the input and output impedance seen by the filter, insertion loss data is reported for a filter in a 50 Ohm system. While this provides a standard for comparison, it does not reflect the actual performance of the filter within your system.
Insertion loss is quite simply the effectiveness of an EMI filter. Insertion loss is defined as the ratio of voltages across the load with and without the filter inserted in the circuit, expressed in dB. A word of caution: The insertion loss of a filter is the performance of the filter in a 50 Ohm system, not the actual performance of the filter within your system.
