WHAT is Inner Wheel Club all about?
It is an international organisation that is closely linked to the Rotary Club. Rotary generally prohibited women from becoming members until recently, but another organisation was established for the wives and daughters of Rotarians, known as the Inner Wheel. So even though women are now able to join Rotary, there are still Inner Wheel clubs all around for female relatives of Rotarians to join. So the club is basically a service organisation of women with members in 160 countries of the world participating in projects, programmes and activities towards providing succour to the less privileged in our communities. When was the club established? The Inner Wheel Club was established 87 years ago by a group of British ladies headed by the late Mrs. Oliver Golden. When did women start to become members of the Inner Wheel Club in Nigeria? I would say around 1982 because when I joined then, there were no female members of the Inner Wheel Club.
