What is initiation ?
There are several aspects of initiation. First, the word initiation comes from the latin word initium meaning “beginning, start”. This shows that initiation is not a gift that enables people to enter fully and in one go the spiritual world, as it is commonly believed. If you analyse all the traditions and religions, you will not find this concept anywhere. Initiation is always a transmission of a non-corporeal energy. The person receiving this energy needs to maintain it with practice. It is this daily practice that will allow an individual to be aware of invisible energies and to discover many subjective phenomena. Access to this energy is always obtained by the use of phosphenes and by the practice of rhythmic thinking (in the form of repeated prayers, mantras, litanies or in the form of japas : constant prayers). A. Some traditions such as Y Dynion Mwyn, look on themselves as the priesthood or clergy and require formal initiation ceremonies. We are among those who believe that only a Witch can make a Witch by a ritual initiation. We also believe only the Goddess and God can imbue a Witch with enlightenment. The author Doreen Valiente and many others assert that if someone chooses to use self initiation, they may do so. We disagree. If someone is self initiated, it may be Wicca but it isn’t Witchcraft. Witchcraft is by definition, a religion of a priest/esshood, and in our opinion you cannot be taught a Mystery Religion by yourself.
