What Is Infrared Thermal Imaging (ITI)?
Infrared thermal imaging has been widely used in government and commercial applications, with specific use by the military (night vision), search aircraft (night vision/heat sensing), fire departments (to locate occupants and/or injured fireman through heavy smoke), manufacturing (to determine operation values of motors, drives, and other electrical and electronic devices, as well as insulation values and level indicators for storage tanks), and much, much more. Only in more recent times has this technology become affordable enough for use in the residential sector. As you will see in the pictures below, there are several uses for ITI in a residential setting. In the home inspection market, this technology aids inspectors in noting temperature patterns or anomalies that may be the result of leakage, improper insulation or sealing practices, wood-destroying-insect damage, and other issues not typically visible with the naked eye.
