What is influenza-like illness (ILI)?
Influenza-like illness (ILI) is a term used to describe a respiratory illness with symptoms that are indicative of an influenza infection, including fever and cough plus one or more of the following: sore throat, muscle pain, joint pain and fatigue. These cases have not been confirmed by laboratory testing but give an early indication of the level of illness in the community that might be due to influenza. Because there are different respiratory viruses that may result similar symptoms, laboratory testing is important to confirm the presence of influenza in the community.
