What is Ineligibility?

Ineligibility may come in many forms, such as aging off a parent’s group plan; a student gets married and is not eligible to continue on the parent’s plan; or, exhausting COBRA. However, there are other forms of qualifying events. They are: if you are a new or transfer student to the school, birth or adoption of a child, and if a student, spouse/domestic partner, or child arrives in the country. Please remember with every qualifying event, students s(spouses/domestic partner and/ or child(ren) have 31 days of eligibility to enroll in the UNC System-Wide Student Health Insurance Plan.
