What is included in the cost of energy service to my home or business?
A. The cost of energy includes: • Basic Customer Charge — This charge covers NYSEG’s fixed costs for things like meter reading, billing, equipment, and maintenance. Regardless of how much energy is used during the billing period, this charge remains the same. • Delivery Charge — This charge includes the cost of delivering the energy to you, maintenance of the wires and pipes and the costs of ensuring the reliability and safety of the system. Regardless of which supply option you choose, you will continue to pay the delivery rate to NYSEG. The delivery rate of 3.5 cents per kWh will be fixed for all residential customers from January 1, 2007 until December 31, 2007. • Supply Charge — Supply costs are the charges for the electricity and gas purchased on your behalf from the wholesale market. • Transition Charge — The difference between the market price of electricity and the price of NYSEG’s long-term electricity supply contracts. • Other Charges — Taxes and other miscellaneous char
