What is included in a Community Risk Register? How are they prioritised?
The Government has provided risk assessment guidance to all LRF’s to assist them in preparing Community Risk Registers. The guidance issued is based on national assessments which then need to be tailored by the LRF to ensure they accurately reflect the likelihood and impact of risks faced in their area. These risks are divided into nine categories: • Industrial Accidents & Environmental Pollution • Transport Accidents • Severe Weather • Structural • Human Health • Animal Health • Industrial Action • International Events • Industrial Technical Failure The likelihood and impact of each hazard are documented to provide a risk rating. A Risk Matrix, shown below, can be used to compare different risk ratings. The risks with highest likelihood and impact are located in the top right corner. These risks are prioritised and treated through various mitigating measures, including the development and exercising of emergency plans.
