What is In Vitro Fertilisation(IVF)?
For patients with irreparably damaged fallopian tubes profound oligospermia (Low Sperm counts ) or failure to conceive after adequate attempts of intrauterine insemmination, In Vitro Fertilasation has become the treatment of choice. The technology involves incubating the oocytes (eggs) & sperm in the laboratory & allowing the resulting embryo (s) to develop for a number of days prior to transferring them into the endometrial cavity.
Originally developed to help women with irreparable damage to their fallopian tubes, IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) is now used for many other disorders including endometriosis and low or poor sperm quality. The technique involves removing several eggs from the ovary, fertilising them in the laboratory with sperm from the male partner, and transferring the resulting embryos to the womb for implantation and pregnancy.
