What is improvisation?
Give me a name of a person and a location. You’ll see this scene if 5-4-3-2-1. Improvisation is a form of performance that is created extemporaneously. Improvisation is an important skill for musicians, particularly in jazz. In the theatre world, Improv has been popularized in scripted form by comedy troupes like The Second City. You’d be hard-pressed to find any actor working in comedy that doesn’t have a background in improv. The “game show” formats are commonly know as short form. Long form improvisation carries a particular theme or group of suggestions through a series of interwoven scenes. Not all improv is meant to be funny.
