What is important to know concerning character conversion when sending documents?
Received text files are automatically converted into the system specific text format (e.g. EBCDIC or ASCII), when they are sent with the parameter ‘format=T’. Example: A text file, which is sent with the parameter ‘format=T’ is automatically converted from there system specific text format (e.g. EBCDIC or no conversion if ASCII is used) into the ASCII text format. The destination receiving a text file with the parameter ‘format=T’ converts it into the system specific text format (e.g. EBCDIC or no conversion if ASCII is used). Text files can be converted by an rvs built in ASCII to EBCDIC or EBCDIC to ASCII code conversion when files are sent or received. The rvs user can use his own ASCII <==> EBCDIC codetables instead of using the system ASCII <==> EBCDIC codetables for code conversion, if the user specific code tables are located in the /home/rvs/init directory. A specialised code conversion can be realised via user defined codetables. Please have a look at the FAQ item ‘rvsX’.
