What is Imagineering?
Well, it’s sort of a combination between engineering (the design of any item to be built) and imagining (or, dreaming.) Contrary to popular belief, neither Walt Disney nor his company were the first to coin the term, but they sure did make it popular! Richard F. Sailer used it in his 1957 article “BRAINSTORMING IS IMAGINation enginEERING” for the National Carbon Company Management Magazine, reprinted by Union Carbide Co. WED Enterprises, Walt’s self financed development group bought the copywrite for the name back in 1967. In February 1986, WED Enterprises became Walt Disney Imagineering, WDI, or just simply Imagineering. My Imagineering: You need not be an Imagineer to imagine, nor to engineer, but if one were to Imagine something into being, at least into your own mind, that is the first step of Imagineering. Many Disney blogs are filled with people whose imaginations are a fire with their own ideas of Disney Magic. And even I do a little imagineering myself. Wanna see my creations?
