What is IGETC? When should I use the IGETC pattern?
IGETC stands for Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum. It is a pattern of general education classes which totals approximately 40 UC/CSU transferable units. Copies of the IGETC GE pattern (printed on purple paper) are available in all of Cabrillo’s counseling areas; it is also printed in the schedule of classes. At the time of transfer, a student can request that Cabrillo certify IGETC as complete. This IGETC certification request is done via the Transcript Request Form available at Admissions & Records. If IGETC is certified as complete, all campuses in the UC and CSU system will accept it in place of their own campus-specific lower division general education pattern. Some private schools will accept the IGETC general education pattern. IGETC is an ideal GE pattern to follow for students who know they want to transfer, but who may be unsure which UC or CSU campus they will transfer to. IGETC may not be ideal for high unit majors such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or
