What is IgE?
IgE is made by the body to fight off some parasites such as Helminth worms that can get into the human gut via contaminated food. In 21st century Britain this is quite a rare occurrence. IgE is the antibody that is involved in allergic reactions. A person who has an allergy produces too much IgE. This IgE may lead to the development of allergic symptoms. Hayfever is a well known example of this.
