What is IFES doing to ensure that voters are properly registered for this election?
In majoritarian electoral systems, it is important that each voting district have the same number of voters (as close as possible) to ensure that all citizens’ votes have equal weight. Therefore, citizens need to be registered at their residential addresses so that voter lists can accurately count voters and meet the equality criterion. IFES is working with volunteer groups of 15 to 40 people to go door-to-door to help citizens check that they are correctly registered. If they’re not, the volunteers provide advice about how to correct their registration. In addition, IFES-Armenia has printed large quantities of posters and leaflets for distribution—and several public service announcements have been produced for TV—all calling on citizens to check that they are correctly registered to vote.
