What is IEC and ANSI/NEMA?
IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) defines electrical standards worldwide. NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) defines electrical standards for the U.S. ANSI (American National Standards Institute) defines electrical standards and safety for the U.S. Many times integrators run into problems when they make assumptions about IEC standards based on what they already know about ANSI/NEMA. For example, problems arise on the day of inspection after the materials have been purchased and the gear has been assembled. Often times these electrical systems do not pass IEC certification due to the fact that an engineer has unknowingly incorporated non IEC components or has designed a feature that is not accepted under the IEC standard. EPD´s experience as an electrical innovator for over 20 years has helped us develop processes to avoid these potential mistakes.
