What is Icing in Hockey?
it is when a Player A on team A is in his defensive or neutral zone, behind the centre ice line. Player A dumps the puck into the offensive zone, where it goes the length of the ice untouched by any other player and goes past the goal line behind the net. If any player on Team B touches the puck the whistle is blown and a faceoff is held in the defensive zone of Team A. Team A also cannot use a line change to put fresh players on the ice, this was introduced by the NHL to encourage players to not ice the puck and as such speed up the game. In IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) icing is slightly different. When Player A shoots the puck the lenght of the ice, once it crosses the goal line it is called icing. This was introduced to eliminate the foot races to collect the puck that resulted in severe injuries as players who would trip and fall being sent headfirst into the boards at high speeds. Some people want the NHL to change the rules to this and hockey analysts and critics ha
