What is Hypnosis?

When parents are nurturing their infant child and the infant is cranky, the parent gently rocks their infant and says soothing words. This makes the infant feel peaceful and very tranquil. This is what ‘Hypnosis’ really does. By learning how to relax, your mind starts to feel tranquil and in a natural manner, this makes your anxiety and stress start to fade. For instance, if a brand new powerful car had 500 bricks in the trunk, that car won’t perform well, just like a person with stress and anxiety. Take the bricks out, or for a person, reduce the anxiety and stress; then that person can be the best they can be.

Simply, hypnosis is a very relaxing, very natural state of mind, which happens to us every day! It occurs when our conscious mind relaxes and what comes to the front then is our unconscious mind (sometimes referred to as the “subconscious”). Examples of this are daydreaming, becoming very absorbed in a task, or driving a long distance on an unchanging highway. Our unconscious mind takes over right before we fall asleep or just before we wake up. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CONSCIOUS MIND AND THE UNCONSCIOUS MIND? Your conscious mind is the analytical, logical mind. The conscious mind questions things and holds these things up against belief or value systems that you have. Your unconscious mind controls your automatic body processes, habits, beliefs, emotional responses, physiological responses, automatic body processes and your learned behaviors. The unconscious mind uses those tools to act in accordance with the belief or value systems you have. HOW DOES HYPNOSIS WORK? Your unc

Have you ever become so involved in a movie or a book that you’ve lost track of time? Felt emotional in response to a song? These are two examples of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a natural state of semi-consciousness that human beings experience several times each day. Hypnotherapy allows each person to use that state of semi-consciousness to effect change on an unconscious level. For hypnotherapy to work, the individual must have a strong desire to reach his/her goal and a hypnotherapist to direct his/her sub-conscious mind through guided imagery and hypnotic suggestion. The hypnotherapist will guide the client, but the client will do the work. Hypnosis is a state of mind in which : • the critical faculty of mind is subdued (the conscious mind is bypassed) • selective thinking is established (focus on the suggestions given by the hypnotherapist) For a more in-depth report, read this article from Scientific American. Back to Top I can’t be hypnotized. That’s not a question! I suppose what you

There are probably as many definitions as there are hypnotists. I define hypnosis like this: The mind has 4 primary filters which effect information coming from the senses. 1 filter deletes the sensory input. As vast as the capability of our mind is, there is just more information coming in than we will ever need. Much of the information is deleted before it gets into the mind. 1 filter distorts the information, based on our belief structure. 1 filter generalizes the information for easier processing. 1 filter compares the information with that which is already thought of as fact [critical judgment], and blocks what is believed by the subconscious to be erroneous information. The Critical Judgment Faculty does not know if the information to be filtered is correct or not. It judges based on its current beliefs. Hypnosis is a bypassing of the 4th filter, the critical judgment filter, and then the establishment of selective suggestibility. Hypnosis is nothing like what is portrayed in the

Hypnosis is a natural state everyone experiences at least twice a day… when waking up and just before falling asleep. We may also enter natural hypnosis when deeply engrossed in a television show or a good book; when daydreaming; or during meditation. Your subconscious can be thought of as a computer program. Your conscious mind carries out this program. Hypnosis is helpful because in trance, the subconscious can be reprogrammed to eliminate habits or behaviors you may have had from childhood that are destructive or unwanted. Hypnosis is also helpful in accessing the subconscious mind where all memories are stored.
