What is hyperprolactinaemia?
Hyperprolactinaemia is a common medical condition that occurs when excessive amounts of the hormone prolactin are secreted by the pituitary gland in the brain. Hyperprolactinaemia mostly affects young (premenopausal) women, but can also occur in men. Benign growths called prolactinomas in the pituitary gland are the most common cause of hyperprolactinaemia.
