What is hypericin and what does it do?
Answer Hypericin is one of the active ingredients in St. John’s Wort. St. John’s Wort is used in cases of depression, insomnia, phobias, nervousness and other conditions diagnosed by health professionals. It takes approximately six weeks to begin feeling its anti-depressant effect when taking St. John’s Wort’s 0.3% hypericin extract 900 to 1100 mg daily. Hypericin consumption may render the skin’s photosensitiveness. Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight, tanning lights or UV sources. Protection should be used during exposure to sunlight. Avoid direct eye contact with sunlight, hypericin may cause cataracts. For this reason, wear sunglasses when outside.
