What is Hyperbaric Treatment?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) or Oxygen therapy involves the intermittent inhalation of 100% oxygen under pressures greater than one atmosphere. This treatment is carried out in a high pressure vessel called: a hyperbaric chamber, a recompression chamber or A decompression chamber. The therapeutic benefits are achieved by delivering oxygen to tissue may result from the mechanical effects of increased pressure directly, or by the physiological effects of improved oxygenation on a variety of end organs. It is important to realize that toxic effects may also arise from these two mechanisms. Scuba diving is a recommended activity to benefit from pressured oxygen.
