What is “Hurt/Comfort”?
Hurt/Comfort is a genre of fan fiction in which one character is injured and the experience brings that character closer to another character usually romantically. One of the most common Hurt/Comfort scenarios includes rape/recovery stories. It is also one of the genres most commonly found in canon as well as fan fiction. Like “Mary Sue” stories, h/c is often very common among new fan writers because, and is often looked down upon as a formula that has become cliched and overused. It is often abused because of the simplistic nature of the plot structure, and is seen as an artificial and contrived way to bring two characters into a romantic relationship.
