What is “HUI” and why should I care?
A. The term “HUI” stands for “Human User Interface” and is the name of Mackie’s first MIDI controller product designed to work together with Pro Tools. The HUI used a specific set of MIDI messages, to which Digidesign “mapped their software parameters in Pro Tools. With the new Pro Tools Upgrade Kit installed, the Mackie Control Universal can now “speak” the language of the original HUI and therefore can communicate directly with the HUI support that already exists in Pro Tools. In short, the Upgrade Kit turns the Mackie Control Universal into a HUI, so it can control Pro Tools.
