What is Hubbles law……TEXT &EXPLANATION IN SIMPLE WORDS.?
Hubble’s Law states that the redshift in light coming from distant galaxies is proportional to their distance. The law was first formulated by Edwin Hubble and Milton Humason in 1929. This idea of an expanding spacetime would eventually lead to the Big Bang and Steady State theories of cosmology. ‘Any two points which are moving away from the origin, each along straight lines and with speed proportional to distance from the origin, will be moving away from each other with a speed proportional to their distance apart.’ This phenomenon was observed as a redshift of a galaxy’s spectrum. This redshift appeared to have a larger displacement for faint, presumably further, galaxies. Hence, the farther a galaxy, the faster it is receding from Earth. The formula is H = v/d where v is the galaxy’s radial outward velocity, d is the galaxy’s distance from earth, and H is the current value of the Hubble constant.
