What is “Hot Yoga”?

0

Hot Yoga is a movement (not a style or method) of Hatha Yoga that is practiced in a heated room. Most forms of Hot Yoga heat the room from anywhere from 80-105 degrees. Hot Yoga styles and studios which stem from the Bishnu Ghosh lineage are predominantly considered “Hot Yoga”. This is due to influence of the father of the movement, Bikram Choudhury, the first to heat up his yoga classes. Bikram is the foremost senior teacher in the USA from the Ghosh’s College of India. It is important to note that Ghosh’s 84 Asanas is actually not “Hot Yoga”. Any style of yoga can be heated and deemed “Hot Yoga”. Most Ghosh lineages styles simply choose to heat their rooms as other lineages do not.
