What is holistic grading?

This applies to grading writing, which is somewhat subjective. Some grades for writing will be based on growth (i.e. did the student demonstrate the skill taught in the lesson) and others will be based on quality (a holistic measure based on the 3rd grade rubric). This holistic scale is sliding in that work that would meet my expectations (75%) at the beginning of the year would be failing work at the end of the year. This is necessary to prepare our students for the 4th Grade writing TAKS test.
