What is holiday pay and when must it be paid?
Work performed on a holiday or Sunday is payable at the appropriate overtime rate which is typically double time. The following is a list of days for which holiday rates of pay apply: Sundays, New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Generally, if a holiday falls on a Sunday it is recognized on the following Monday, which makes work performed on that Monday payable at the appropriate overtime rate for holiday pay.
