What is Herpes?
Herpes is an infection caused by two viruses that are different but closely related. The two types of viruses are called herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2). Both of these two viruses are very common and easily transmitted. The symptoms of the two viruses are similar. HSV1 (oral herpes) generally occurs in the mouth and surrounding area. HSV2 (genital herpes) generally occurs in the genitals and surrounding area.
