What is heat flow up, down, and horizontal?
These are heat flow directions, and are utilized as criteria in r-value tasting. When a roof assembly test is conducted for reflective insulation, HEAT FLOW DOWN is tested. When a wall assembly is tested, HEAT FLOW HORIZONTAL is tested. All insulations yield three separate values if tested to each criteria. However, most conventional insulations are only tested to HEAT FLOW HORIZONTAL criteria, which is why were accustomed to only seeing one r-value on conventional insulations.
