What is healthy to feed my bunny besides his regular food?
It is important to give your rabbit a balanced diet especially with adequate calcium levels. Give quality hay or grass ad lib he can chew and grind to wear his teeth down, plus a complete dry rabbit food fed in limited amounts (2-3 oz) that he finishes completely without being selective. Leafy greens such as cabbage, kale, spinach, and other vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, celery can be fed, but try and avoid nutritionally poor vegetables such as lettuce and cucumber.
Depends how old your rabbit is. If it is an adult rabbit thenit should be getting unlimited hay to nibble, about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of pellets per 6 lbs of bodyweight each day. Add 2 cups of veggies to round it off and complete his diet. A couple of times a week a little bit of fruit is nice. Good veggies are most of the dark green ones though go easy with kale and spinach. Feed one veggie at a time to see how they like it. Increase as they get used to it.
Ok i noticed no one mentioned hay here. And no cabbage!! but any hwo back to the hay deal. I feed my rabbits a mix of Orchard grass, Bunny brome, and timothy hay. I dont reccomend Alfalfa unless you have a rapidly growing baby bunny. All alfalfa will prolly do is cause obesity or cause crystals to form in its urine. Timothy is the reccomended hay. You can find mini bags in the petstores. I use oxbow cause in the kaytee hay i found bugs.
