What is Harvest Festival?
RE Discuss what is means to have a festival or celebration and explain that lots of religions have festivals that are important to them throughout the year. Explain that harvest is a Christian festival, held in the autumn which: gives thanks to God for crops and harvest produce celebrates nature is a time to give to those in need. If possible, take the children for a short nature walk and look at all the trees, plants and flowers. If you have time, they can collect any leaves or twigs that have fallen to the ground to make a Show and Tell table in the classroom. If there is no nature space near the school, ask the children to bring in something from their garden or park, but remind them not to destroy lots of flowers and plants! The children can write a short prayer or poem thanking God for their favourite element of nature. To inspire them, read some poems or song words on the theme. If possible, a selection of the childrens poems could be read in assembly. The poems can be decorated
