What is Haptics?

Haptics seems to be the science of applying touch feedback related to consumer electronic devices.  I found this on youtube about Haptics and it explained it pretty well for me.  I look forward to any other experts deeper explanation.

Uses could be to give touch feedback on a virtual keyboard or Multi dimensional touch feedback in a video game through the screen or controller.  In practice right now Haptics are done either by a ERM (eccentric rotating mass), a LRA (linear resonant actuator), or Piezo actuators.  The first 2 of those are Inertial Motors and from these YouTube videos it makes it clear that they are slower, require more power, and are more bulky than the Piezo Haptic technology.
