I would never consider allowing my power company access to my bank account by DD. I always pay in cash. Direct Debit gives them carte blanche to charge what they will.Iff you are paying by DD then I suggest that you put a stop to it. Phone your bank and get them to close it down PRONTO. Does the meter reader gain access to read your meters? If they are unable to gain access the power company will apply estimated readings to your account. Three times this years my power Scottish Hydro applied estimated readings to my account which were way beyond my usage. This was despite me phoning in the exact readings, they disregarded my readings. Not only that they failed to send me the billings for the last four quarters. They did send me reminders that I hadn’t paid the bills, they demanded that I pay the account or else be disconnected and taken to court, for monies I didnt owe them. Well I am in a 3 bed house, and have a family of 4 and we only pay 70.00 for electric, and 40.00 for gas. That is with British Gas. although we do get a reduction for having paperless bills, and an extra discount for having duel fuel. I suggest that you speak to Help the Aged they have got people who will sort the problem out for you. I suggest too that you change companies.
eon are a joke, we got a £4000 bill, we pay by direct debit! they said the meter hadnt been read for 2 years and that the previous bills were estimated, well I know they read the metre because I let them in to do it, I am a heating engineer and have an ‘a’ rated boiler, and very efficient system controls, so can work out the usage, powergen were never a problem, it is only since eon took over, they are claiming 2 years for which they didnt even supply our gas.. powergen did!
