What is happening to make my Honey locust tree look so bad?
The Honey locust, Gleditsia triacanthos, is a major host for the mimosa webworm. These larvae commonly form communities that build unsightly tents of webbing where they feed on the enclosed foliage. The result is a tree which fits your description. The adult insect is a silvery-gray moth with wings that are stippled with black dots. Normally, two generations appear per season, the first in June, the second in August or September. Control this pest with an appropriate insecticide.
