What is happening in this community in terms of going back to using penicillin?
Here, we know that it is here, and we know that it’s a problem, and so we’ve been very effective in teaching the physicians that are in our area, don’t use the macrolide antibiotics as your first choice for kids with strep throat. Go back to the penicillins, and for the kids that are allergic, use other alternatives, but really avoid the macrolides. So they’re actually doing that? Yeah, the physicians that I’ve spoken with have said that, because of what you found, we’re not using those drugs. What is going on with this study now? So it was year three that we saw that 48% of our isolates were resistant to Erythromycin. In year four, it was 52% of our isolates. So it was still there, and we’ve just begun year five of the study. We are still seeing the resistant isolates. So we know it’s still here in the community. We have seen fewer acute strep infections with the resistant isolate.
